Not necessarily. HSV IgG testing detects antibodies showing prior exposure to HSV-1 or HSV-2. It generally cannot determine when the infection occurred or where on the body the infection is located. Your provider can help you understand what your individual result means and whether additional evaluation is appropriate.

No test can screen for every sexually transmitted infection, and some infections may not be detectable immediately after exposure. If you have symptoms, a recent exposure, or a specific concern, please tell your provider so we can determine whether additional testing or follow-up is appropriate.
